A strong solar flare has been recorded on the Sun for the first time in the last three days. This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the IKI RAS, according to scientists, the flare reached its maximum at 16:51 Moscow time and was classified as M7.1.
Solar flares are classified by the power of X-ray radiation and are divided into five classes: A, B, C, M, and X. IKI also noted that since midnight Wednesday Moscow time, the Sun has produced eight medium-power C-class flares.
Earlier, the director of the astronomical observatory of Irkutsk State University, Professor Sergey Yazev, reported that in 2026, amid a general decrease in solar activity, a reduction in the number of days with magnetic storms is also expected.
